The diversity and varieties of soils combined with the climatic conditions along the 49th parallel impart a distinctive character to the wines of Southern Moravia.
The area along the 49th parallel is the northernmost wine-producing region in Central Europe. Local grapes ripen alternately under the influence of both the Atlantic and inland climates. The moist and fresh air flowing from the Atlantic Ocean may slow down grape maturation, but it also contributes to a better formation of their delicate aromatic compounds and subtle spicy notes. Additionally, the soil factors are highly diverse and varied, predominantly consisting of loess soils, although rocky and loamy-sandy soils are common here as well.
